When will we finally blame ourselves

for the choices that we made,

for those that we elected,

or all the times we strayed

from the roads we knew were right

for the ease of another way,

our path of least resistance 

to not act, only think and pray.

But, as children continue dying

and so many go unfed,

as people lose their jobs and homes

or can’t afford their meds,

we always look for scapegoats,

for who got us into this mess

instead of looking inwardly

attempting not to confess

where we went wrong

or didn’t make things right.

When if we only looked in the mirror

the answer is in our sight.
