Jeremiah 17.5-6

My blueberry bushes died last summer.

Because of drought and ill-timed vacation

the ground was dry with no saturation.

We ate no fresh blueberries, what a bummer.

Flash flooding came when rains finally fell

because the earth was concrete, hard-packed clay,

and nothing soaked into the ground all day.

Even with rain, the drought was not quelled.

This is what happens when we trust in people,

make them our saviors, thinking they know best.

But, they care for themselves and ignore the rest,

doing it all in the shadow of steeples.

We let them draw out into the wild.

Yes, Paul is right, we still reason like a child.
